Create a Dynamic Blog Gallery with Essential Grid Gallery

Overview

This tutorial guides Shopify store owners through the process of creating and publishing a dynamic blog post gallery using the Essential Grid Gallery app. It covers how to import a pre-made template, link your Shopify blog content, customize the layout by removing filter tabs, and embed the final gallery onto a live page.

Steps

Step 1: Initialize a Grid Template

  • Open the Essential Grid Gallery dashboard.
  • Click the Use a Template button.

  • Select Photo Gallery then Blog Post from the left-hand menu.
  • Click on your preferred blog template from the available choices.
  • Click Install Grid and Go to open the imported grid gallery.

Note: The template is dynamic and will not display images or content until a source is connected.

  1. Navigate to the Source tab.
  2. Check your Shopify admin to identify the exact name of the blog category you want to display.
  3. Select that specific Blog Name within the app settings.
  4. Click save.

Step 3: Remove the Filter Tab (Optional Layout Customization)

  1. Scroll up to the top of the interface and navigate to the Nav Filter Sort tab.
  2. Remove the filter option from the visible area by dragging and dropping it away.
  3. Click the Save Gallery button to apply and save your updated configuration.

  1. Navigate to the Naming tab.
  2. Copy the unique Gallery ID. Each new gallery generated by the app contains its own unique identifier.

  1. Head over to the Shopify dashboard and open the theme customization editor.
  2. Click on Add Block.
  3. Select the App tab and choose Essential Grid Gallery.
  4. If you have created multiple grids, paste the specific Gallery ID you copied in Step 4 into the designated ID field (if you only have one grid, the ID number may add itself automatically).
  5. Click Save inside the theme editor to deploy the blog gallery to your live page.

Key Takeaways

  • Dynamic Content: The Essential Grid Gallery relies on dynamic sourcing, meaning it automatically populates layout templates using live blog content pulled directly from specified Shopify blog categories.
  • Unique Identifiers: Every grid created receives a distinct Gallery ID, which is required to route and display that specific layout inside the Shopify theme customizer.
  • Interactive Navigation: Once published on a live page, clicking an item in the gallery redirects visitors straight to that individual blog post's page.
